ADMISSIONS / ENROLMENT POLICY

The Willunga Waldorf School, in accordance with State and Commonwealth anti-discrimination legislation does not discriminate in accepting an application for admission of a student on the basis of race, colour, sex, sexuality, physical or mental disability, religion, national extraction or social origin.

This Admissions Policy has been formulated to outline the steps that will be taken in the application and enrolment processes of the Willunga Waldorf School.

The following process is designed to enable a prospective parent to make an informed choice regarding the enrolment of their child in the Willunga Waldorf School and to enable the school to access all relevant information pertaining to any application for enrolment.

1. On the first inquiry, the school office will send an Information Package. The package will contain:

- the Enrolment Policy of the School
- an Application for Enrolment Form
- a Vision Statement and an introduction to the School and Waldorf Education
- the Willunga Waldorf School Curriculum Document
- the Fee Schedule for the current year
- a map of the School grounds
- School Tour dates
- a subscription form for the Willunga Waldorf School Weekly Newsletter.

2. On the second inquiry, an appointment will be made for an initial interview with the educational facilitator who will elaborate the educational philosophy of the School. The Willunga Waldorf School is part of the Waldorf / Steiner schools movement and works with a curriculum that is based on the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. This philosophy identifies the stages of child development and relates the curriculum in both content and timing to the needs of the child at each year level.
The educational programme offered at the Willunga Waldorf School is substantially different from other State and Independent schools and it is essential that prospective parents are fully informed about the underlying philosophy and school expectations to ensure congruence between school and home for the child.

3. If the parent/s or guardian/s wish to continue with the application, they will complete the Application for Enrolment Form and forward it with a non refundable enrolment fee of $30.00 to the School Office. The Application Form includes two sections; 1) Release of Information Permission and 2) Identification of special needs or disability. Both sections must be completed.

4. When there is a vacancy in the relevant class, the parent/s or guardian/s will be notified and reports will be sought from the student's previous or current school. On receipt of the reports the teacher will arrange an interview with the parents and student. Interviews for the Kindergarten will be undertaken by the Kindergarten teachers and for the primary school, by the relevant class teacher.

5. If parent/s or guardian/s have indicated that the student has a special need or disability, an interview will be arranged with the parents, teacher and the Special Education support teacher to discuss an appropriate educational programme for the child. The steps for gathering reports will be outlined and any adjustments will be identified and assessed against the school's resources.
This information will include:

- An Assessment by the Special Education teacher
- Reports from previous schools
- Current reports from support professionals and/or agencies
- Staffing needs
- Budget implications to adjustments in the physical environment,     staffing or curriculum.

Please note that the obligations of the school to implement any adjustment is subject to the provision by the parent/s / guardian/s of timely and relevant advice of the student's individual requirements.

6. The teacher, in consultation with the Educational Facilitator, will take into account the following factors when deciding to offer a position to a prospective student:

- teacher child ratio
- sibling status
- students transferring from other Waldorf/ Steiner Schools
- position on the waiting list
- Compatibility of the philosophy underlying Waldorf Education with the beliefs of the responsible adults in the child's home environment
- the special education needs of other children in the class vis a vis the needs of the applicant.
- behavioural challenges of the appliers vis a vis duty of care in relation to other students.

7. When a student has been recommended for enrolment the school office will arrange a time for the parent/s or guardian/s to have a financial and general administration interview.

8. When a student with identified special needs or disability has been recommended for enrolment, the parent/s or guardian/s will be advised of a negotiated curriculum plan and any agreements will be documented and provided to the parent/s or guardian/s. The school office will arrange a time for the parent/s or guardian/s to have a financial and general administration interview.
